The Quinta is the ideal base from which to discover the region, from some of the best known ex-libris such as the castles of Almourol and Belver, to the monastery of Flor da Rosa in Crato, the Convent of Christ in Tomar, but also to some of the most spectacular landscapes and walks in the region, such as the walkways along the Tagus, the river beaches of Alamal and Ortiga, the waterfalls of Pego da Rainha, the dams of Montargil and Castelo de Bode, and even a visit to Castelo de Vide and Marvão.

Horse Riding and riding lessons at Quinta do Carvalhal



The Carvalhal farm, located right at the entrance of Gavião, owned by José Patricio Lino Netto, was part of the Morgadio de Seixas, bond belonging to the Ayres de Seixas family, for several generations. In the farm, horse rides in the countryside are organised, as well as riding lessons for the younger ones.

Climbing the Tagus River by Boat



Enjoy one of the most beautiful areas of rest, leisure and tranquillity in Portugal: the river beach of Alamal, located in the municipality of Gavião, on the border between the Alto Alentejo and Beira Baixa, from which you can take boat trips up the Tagus, passing by unique places such as the Belver Castle. Mantas Museum, metallic bridge (centenary), Ribeira de Canas bridge and Beira Baixa railway line, passing by 2 colonies of griffon vultures or the Roman walls, and a small bridge.

Alamal Footpaths - along the Tagus river



The Alamal Footbridge has an approximate length of 3 km and a very low degree of difficulty, it is located in the municipality of Gavião, district of Portalegre. The trail starts at Praia Fluvial do Alamal and ends near the Belver Bridge. It is a magnificent walk along the river Tejo, involving two parishes, Gavião and Belver! The Alamal Footbridge is a walkway that people with reduced mobility, children and adults can do it with ease, as the terrain is flat and with a good floor, so it is easy to visit all year round. The trail offers magnificent views.

River beach of Alamal



The river beach of Quinta do Alamal is integrated in a stunning setting on the banks of the Tejo River. This beach is part of a leisure complex that in addition to infrastructures to support the bathing area, also includes an Adventure Centre that offers various activities such as rappelling, slide, or boat and canoe rides. From the beach, the view is magnificent. On top of a hill, the castle of Belver stands out in this landscape where the green vegetation contrasts with the calm waters of the Tagus River. It is about 12 km / 14 minutes away.

River beach of Ortiga



Well known for its extremely high quality infrastructures. Examples of this are a covered picnic area with grills and a car park. It also has a snack bar with a terrace overlooking the beach, a jetty and a restaurant relatively close to the beach. It has bathrooms with changing rooms, an access ramp for people with reduced mobility and a first aid post. For lovers of outdoor sports activities, such as climbing, it is possible to do so as long as you

contact the concessionary. It is about 3.6 km / 7 minutes away.

The Pego da Rainha waterfall



Pego da Rainha is hidden in a deep valley, granite cliffs and full of trees. It is located near the village of Zimbreira in the municipality of Mação. The waterfall is 3 to 4 metres high. The water emerges from between the rocks, protected by the shadows of tall trees. It gains light, strength and sound when it falls into a natural pool.

It is about 31 km / 31 minutes away.

Montargil Dam



The Montargil Dam is located in the district of Portalegre, county of Ponte de Sôr, parish of Montargil. It belongs to the hydrographic basin of the river Tejo, and is located in the Ribeira de Sôr. The dam's reservoir is widely used for water sports, sport fishing and for nature related activities such as bird watching. It is about 66 km / 54 minutes away.

Barragem de Castelo de Bode



Situated on the Zêzere River in an area of great beauty, the Castelo de Bode reservoir is one of the largest in Portugal and stretches over 60 km between the municipalities of Tomar, Abrantes, Sardoal and Ferreira do Zêzere. The reservoir offers excellent conditions for water sports (rowing, sailing and motor boats, as well as water skiing, jet skiing and windsurfing) and it is permitted to swim and fish.

It is about 36 km / 30 minutes away.
